How Racism Affects Children

Did you know that there are physiological effects upon children being raised in a stressful racist environment? Their blood pressure and heart rate increases. Stress hormones such as cortisol are elevated and their immune system can trigger an inflammatory response making it harder for wound healing and fighting infection. Continuous “toxic stress” from long periods of being in, living in or experiencing or exposed in early childhood to an environment of systemic racism, does not inevitably lead to disease early in life but does increase the risk of later problems, prolonged elevations of blood sugar leading to insulin resistance, obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes, heart disease and autoimmune disorders. The average age of child trafficking victims is between the ages of 11 – 14. Family members exclusively traffic most children under the age of 10. 74% of child trafficking involves sex trafficking, and the majority involves pimp-controlled prostitution. Approximately 1.2 million children are trafficked every year.

Children are trafficked for:

  • Sexual Exploitation
  • Benefit Fraud
  • Forced Marriage
  • Domestic Slavery Like Cleaning, Cooking and Childcare
  • Forced Labor In Factories Or Agriculture
  • Committing Crimes, Like Begging, Theft, Working On Cannabis Farms Or Moving Drugs

Beware of Poison Ivy

Poison ivy can spread urushiol to skin in all seasons. Have you ever heard the old adage, “leaves of three, let it be”? The sap on the plant’s leaves, called urushiol, often causes an allergic reaction and rash. The stalk of the middle leaflet is much longer than the two side leaflets and the edges can be smooth or coarse toothed. The surface can be glossy or dull.

Poison ivy doesn’t just grow in and near the woods, it can grow in sidewalk cacks, vacant lots and other nooks and crannies throughout cities, beach towns, and suburbs.

Let’s Clarify Air Pollution

With international cooperation and collective global environmental action, environment on the priority list of governments, the world could truly celebrate on World Environment Day, June 5th 2022, with the whole world focused on living sustainably with nature, and can be achieved with a global commitment to resolving climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste. This crisis is humanity’s greatest threat, and may cause the extinction of millions of species.

Air pollution is the greatest environmental threat to public health globally, and does have an impact on the climate. Improving our air quality will bring health and international efforts to tackle this critical issue is a must. Every breath we take sucks in tiny particles that can damage our lungs, hearts and brains and cause a stroke, heart disease, lung disease and cancer and a host of other problems such as diabetes and impairing cognitive development in children and exacerbating mental health problems, especially for those living in developed nations. Observation is Very Important

Observing your child’s physical actions, expressions, gestures and behaviors, and listening to their talking and interacting with others will show you how they’re developing, their likes and dislikes and how they learn through their play and interactions. It will reveal more about them as an individual, and how they interact with other children as well as adults.

Observation identifies the area and areas your child may be struggling with so you can address these issues and ensure they get the suitable support needed.

Observing your child gives you the accurate information needed to meet your child’s needs and help them to continually improve their learning and development.

Tired of Temper Tantrums?

Toddlers and preschoolers feel emotions that are the cause of temper tantrums. They feel emotions in a more full-body way than adults do. They get trapped in these emotions not able to articulate how they’re feeling about the emotion and it’s a struggle for them to know what to do about it. 

Here’s some of the ways to avoid them happening:

  1. Be consistent. Establish a daily routine so that your child knows what to expect.
  2. Plan ahead. Run errands when your child isn’t likely to be hungry or tired.
  3. Let your child make appropriate choices. Avoid saying no to everything.
  4. Praise good behavior.
  5. Avoid situations you have observed trigger tantrums.

For God’s Sake, Imagine What You Want To Be And Keep Trying

Children as well as adults need to be responsible to make the free time to think and to dream and fulfill bucket lists and enjoy daring adventures and be a good role model always putting forth efforts to achieve.

Consider your child’s wishes and interests, and teach them to be dedicated to their dreams. It’s taken a long time to reach my goals, and that’s because I lost the passion needed to achieve my goals. It’s back, and this time, I am going to keep this passion alive in me full of positive action and unwavering faith.

Wow! I saw that quote and it summoned up what I am advocating and what I am doing is all about. I’m everybody’s godma!

My motivation in writing and publishing I Want To Know How To Grow is to get you to get into conversations with your kids to teach them what they need to become healthy and active and well educated and kind-hearted youth in this world in their new beginning of their generation being capable of taking good care of themselves and knowledgeable enough to relate to and accept the diversity of others they come into direct contact and communication with.
